Founded, Owned, and Run by Freemasons – for Freemasons
Humberside Masonic Supplies is a family owned business founded by Managing Director Malcolm Coates some 4 decades ago to provide high quality regalia to Brethren. During that time it has gained an enviable reputation for square dealing and personalised service to Freemasonry.
Malcolm can trace his unbroken Masonic lineage back to 1713 when George Coates was Initiated into the Grand Lodge of York. Though this Lodge ceased working in 1745 after the formation of the Premiere Grand Lodge of England, George was one of six original members who assisted in its revival.
Malcolm’s great grandfather, Charles Hutton Coates, became Past Grand Chaplain in 1913 and appointed Grand Chaplain the next year. He later became Chaplain to the Sykes Family at Sledmere House and is buried there. Sledmere estate is still one of the largest landed estates in Yorkshire.
Michael Coates, Malcolm’s son, is the latest to continue this unique line of Freemasons and is a Director of the Company.
They were joined in the company by Stewart Oxborough, a Grand Officer, who then became a Director in 2019.
All are members of Humber Lodge No:57 in the Province of Yorkshire North & East Ridings. Malcolm is also a member of Smyth Lodge No:2284 and Stewart a member of Lord Worsley Lodge No:3017 both in the Masonic Province of Lincolnshire.
